The Tuatara

The tuatara is reptile. It eats birds, eggs, insects and lizards. They are 31 inches long. They are 2.9 pounds and they live on islands in New Zealand.


I thought they were really cool because they have three eyes. They are rare because they only live in New Zealand, and that's the only place you can find them in. They live for 100 years!


They are protected by law. People want to protect them because they are only in one place. Tuataras are living fossils. All of their relatives are extinct. That is why it is so important to learn about this species and why we should protect them.
